Nagpur: Police in a preemptive action in the wee hours of Thursday, foiled an impending dacoity by nabbing a gang of six crooks in the nick of time in posh Dhantoli locality. The accused gang members were armed with lethal weapons to be used in the dacoity.
Dhantoli cops received a tip-off that a gang of six suspicious persons has gathered at Congress Nagar Garden in the odd night hours. Acting swiftly, a team of cops raided the place and surrounded the gang. When asked about the motive behind assembling at this time of night, the crooks fumbled and could not give satisfactory answers. Upon frisking, the cops found three swords, a baseball bat, rope, chili powder, mobile phone and a motorcycle (MH-40/1174) in the possession of the gang. The deadly stuff was seized and the six miscreants were placed under arrest. The accused have been identified as Abhishek Chandrashekhr Ahire (19), Rohit Sandeep Dudhe (22), both residents of Ajni, Akash Ambadas Kangali (21), Rohit Tarachand Gedam (19), Badal Dhanraj Bhalavi (19) and Sachin Durgesh Uike (19), all residents of Dhantoli Takiya.
The arrested gang members were booked under Section 399 of IPC read with Sub-Section 4+25 of Arms Act and Sub-Section 135 of Mumbai Police Act. PSI Meshram is probing the matter further.
