The victim Ritesh Baiswar had reached Ghatate Building and from there had accompanied his friend to Barbarian Gym as is his usual practice. He had gone along with his friend to the gym on his Honda Activa two wheeler. The duo rode the vehicle right till the parking lot. Suddenly one of the accused, who was said to be hiding and waiting for the victim, threw red-chili powder on his eyes. Seeing the three accused armed with knives and swords, his friend allegedly ran to the other direction, while the victim Ritesh ran towards the road. This is the lane that is hit opposite to Batukbhai Jewellers and next to Chawan Traders. DCP Nirmala Devi claimed that they already have the names of some suspects. However, divulging their names would jeopardize the investigation and may alert the accused.

CCTV footage shows criminal nature of the accused

The CCTV camera of Chawan Traders captured the entire crime live in action. The footage showed how the three continuously gored him with knives. The victim, though having a well-built body became docile since the accused had thrown chili powder on his eyes rendering the victim unable to defend himself. They then gored him. After attacking him with knives, when two of the accused escaped the spot, the third accused continued to gore the victim with a knife. So cruel was his intention that he continued to gore him even after the victim fell down.

Insensitive people

The CCTV footage also showed how nearly 14 two-wheelers and two four-wheelers passed the spot where the victim was being knifed to death. Not one of them chose to stop and prevent the murder or intervene. Almost all of them just noticed the crime in action and passed by. However, almost everybody whom Nagpur Today spoke to said that who will get involved in a murder case? People get unnecessarily harassed by the police and after the cops, he or she will have to attend the court whenever the case comes up in the court. If one does get ready to give eye-witness account to the court, the accused will attempt to eliminate them also. So why will anyone stop their vehicle and intervene?

After 10 minutes of the murder, the victim’s friend arrived at the crime spot and tried to take the victim to the hospital. However, at that very moment, a cousin of the victim who allegedly runs a driving school, arrived there on a car. The two took the victim to Wockhardt Hospital at Shankar Nagar Square. However, by the time they reached the hospital, he died on the way. The doctors there declared the victim brought dead. After performing the required official documentations, they sent the body for post mortem to Government Medical College and Hospital.

Victim too had prior police record

According to police sources, the victim Ritesh Baiswar is said to have prior criminal record. Sources said that he had once hit the son of a prominent politician of BJP. This had led him to be arrested and sent to Central Jail too. This incident was around 4 years old. The victim had associations with many small time criminals.
