Nagpur: Special Squad of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Niketan Kadam arrested six persons involved in supplying illegally mined sand and seized two tippers and an earth moving machine worth Rs 50.36 lakh from them in Yashodhara Nagar area on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Shabbir Saif Ali (34), Kailash Shankulal Uikey (25), both residents of Ganeshganj, Lakhnadon, district Seoni, Madhya Pradesh; Vishal Pandurang Uikey (24), a resident of Bhandewadi, Kanhaiyyalal Kailashprasad Yadav (31), a resident of Bhilgaon; Saran Parmanand Kowe (22), a resident of Gond Mohalla, Pardi, and Ashwin alias Vicky Ashok Gedam (29), a resident of Masala, Jibhkate Nagar.
Acting on secret information, the Special Squad intercepted a sand-laden tipper (MH-40/6865) near Naka No 2, Kamptee Road. Driver Shabbir Ali and cleaner Vishal Uikey failed to furnish the royalty papers and transport permit. They told police that they loaded the sand from the area behind Swara Traders. Cops visited the spot and found a huge stock of illegally mined sand. Police caught the other accused red-handed when they were loading the sand in another tipper (MH31/CQ-1892) using a JCB Machine (MH-40/CB-7665) and took them into custody.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station. The arrests and seizure of vehicles were made by API Rajendra Yadav, API Yogesh Mahajan, other staff comprising Arun Chandane, Ravikumar Sahu, Ankush, Yogesh, Chandrakant and Roshan.
