Nagpur: In a shocking incident, a dead bird was found in the nutrition meal grains in Nagpur district. This occurred in the Ghatrohna Gram Panchayat of Parseoni Taluka. The dead bird was discovered in the meal provided to a child named Neel Shindekar. Allegations have been made that substandard nutrition meals are being distributed under the supplementary nutrition program in Anganwadi centers.
In response to this alarming discovery, the Sarpanch and villagers have submitted a memorandum to the CEO of the District Council. The Women and Child Welfare Committee has announced that an inquiry into the matter has been ordered following the complaints.
A similar incident in Pune has also caused concern. Grains intended for school nutrition meals were found to be infested. Weevils and larvae were discovered in rice, matki (moth beans), and mung dal. This incident took place at a district council school in Bahul, Khed Taluka. The nutrition meal program, initiated to encourage school attendance, is now under scrutiny due to the poor quality of the grains.
Whether in Nagpur or Pune, it is evident that the health of young students is at risk. These incidents raise serious questions about the actual beneficiaries of the school nutrition meal program and the quality of food being provided to children.
