Deepak Bajaj surrenders before ACB but gets admitted in hospital

Nagpur: The “absconding” Secretary of Sindhu Education Society Deepak Bajaj surrendered before the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday afternoon but in the evening, got admitted in a private hospital  in Ramdaspeth with chest pain complaint. The tainted Secretary surrendered before the ACB as per the directives of Supreme Court  that had rejected his anticipatory bail application. The wife of Deepak Bajaj, Veena, who is headmistress of a school, was arrested a few days ago.

A day after Deepawall, Bajaj presented himself before the ACB officials and was taken into custody. The High Court on October 14 had also rejected anticipatory ball application of Bajaj, after perusing material collected by ACB against him. Bajaj was on the run since last five weeks, after ACB registered a case against him under Sections 13 (1) (c) (d) read with section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and recovered Rs 2B lakh cash and 26 chits indicating financial transaction worth Rs 397 crore with dates, rate of interest.

The sleuths also found unexplained financial transactions worth Rs 10 crore and they are yet to search 13 lockers belonging to Bajaj. During search of his premises, applicant Bajaj was found in possession of assets worth Rs. 405,96,93,761 disproportionatewith his known sources of income and for that he had offered no explanation. Bajaj and his family members could have earned onlyRs  2.5 crore by way of salary, all these years. Bajaj has been Secretary of the Society since 1987 and since 2000, he has been both Secretary and Headmaster both. His wife Veena, who was also arrested and after custodial remand released on ball.
