Nagpur: To prevent the outbreak of dengue, strict measures are being taken by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and during the month of August, the field employees carried out surveys at 1,23,314 houses in the city.
The step-up in survey was undertaken owing to lull in monsoon as during the said period, the dengue larvae tend to flourish in large quantities. The health teams found larvae in 3,063 houses, following which, 308 people were issued notices by NMC. So far, 2,842 suspected dengue cases have been reported in the month of August alone. Out of these, 224 patients turned out to be dengue positive.
At the start of the year, from January onwards, 3,717 dengue suspects have been recorded in Nagpur city and 335 positive patients have been recorded during this period. All necessary measures are being taken by the Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation to prevent dengue. ASHA Sevikas and nurses are conducting house to house surveys. People are being told to drain out stored water in their house or area as they are mosquito breeding sites.
Also, suspected sites were sprayed with chemicals and water-filled containers were emptied. Besides, if anyone in the household has dengue-like symptoms, they are guided for further treatment. With proper diagnosis and timely treatment, dengue can be cured immediately. Therefore, citizens should seek medical advice immediately if they experience dengue-like symptoms.
If a dengue patient is found in the area or at home, special attention should be paid to cleanliness. Care should be taken that water does not accumulate anywhere. One day in a week should be observed as a dry day. If dengue-like symptoms occur, people should go to the nearest Primary Health Centre and seek free medical advice. Also, NMC has made an appeal to citizens that they should cooperate with the health team if they come to their houses for the survey.
