700 mm dia pipelinr repaired in record time without affecting water supply
Nagpur: NMC-OCW has announced alternate day supply in city till Aug 22. It means city will get water supply on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday while Taps will go dry on Wednesday, Friday and Sundays.
Today being Thursday , July 25…it was water supply day, however while charging pipelines to provide water supply in various areas, one of the 700 mm dia feeder line supplying water to Laxmi Nagar Old ESR, Civil Lines DT and other areas abruptly burst near Gajanan Temple at Futala Road at about 2 am on Thursday.
Taking serious cognizance of incidence NMC-OCW technical team immediately rushed to the spot and started leakage plugging work on war footing. Today almost 3 leakages reported, one at Futala on 700 mm dia pipeline, another at Mangalwari zone and at Laxminagar zone. All were plugged by NMC-OCW teams by working on war footing.
The pipe was damaged at its extreme level (see picture). OCW technical team first checked how fast the leakage could be plugged in a bid to provide smooth water supply to areas that were provided supply by this 700 mm to a line like Laxmi Nagar Old ESR command area, Civil Lines etc. Simultaneously leakage plugging work also started.
Despite it being a major leakage repairing work (which could have required 24- hours to plug) NMC-OCW completed it within few hours. It may be mentioned here despite the Nagpur water supply network has been laid for daily water supply and for the first time ever city has been provided with alternate day water supply…thanks to the rains & unavailability of water at Totaladoh dam, NMC-OCW teams (over 2000 staffers irrespective of their departments) are working day-night (24×7) to provide sufficient water supply at the taps of Nagpurianas during Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Today the technical team led by EE NESL Mrs Shweta Banarjee , OCW CEO Sanjoy Roy, ED NESL Mr Manoj Ganvir, Director (O&M) Rajesh Kalra, Mr Sushant Sourabh & Team , Mr Madhusudan Tembhurnikar (Dharampeth zone), Mrs Neelam Verma (Laxmi Nagar zone) & Mr Amit Gedam worked hard for plugging leakage in record time without affecting water supply of West & south west Nagpur.
It may be mentioned here during the ongoing alternate days water supply days almost on an average 1500 calls including complaints coming at call centre or at any other source to NMC-OCW are being immediately attended and resolved to provide water supply at the taps of citizens. Calls coming for gathering information are being attended and replied with thorough information.
