Nagpur: Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (DU), Sawangi (M), Wardha, secured A+ grade in its third cycle of reaccreditation by the NAAC in the year 2017, for a period of 7 years. By virtue of this grading the university was placed in the elite Category- I by the UGC. In terms of the UGC notification issued on 20th April 2018, the university was granted graded autonomy and thereby the university was entitled to start new educational programs in other domains. The university also had autonomy to start off campus, off shore campus and ODL and online courses.
Availing this autonomy the DMIMS(DU) broadened its academic ambit and launched courses in different faculties other than health Sciences. Currently there are 12 faculties under the ambit of the university, offering 265 educational programs on conventional, ODL and online mode. The off campus of the university was launched at Wanadongri, Hingna, Nagpur with Datta Meghe Medical college as its constituent unit.
The new faculty launched by the university comprise of faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of commerce and management, Faculty of engineering & technology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical sciences, Faculty of liberal Arts, Humanities and Social sciences in addition to previously existing faculties.
The educational programs started under these new faculties comprise of management courses like BBA, MBA. B Com, and under the faculty of Engineering and Technology the B Tech & M Tech courses are offered in the emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence, Data Management, Biomedical engineering and agricultural Engineering and BCA, MCA after due permission from the AICTE.
The New National education policy notified by the Govt. of India is duly incorporated in the educational programs of the university to the possible and permissible extent and the initiatives taken under the same are Multiple entry /exit, Apprenticeship embedded program, Inclusion of Minor/Honours, Inclusion of electives, Inclusion of SWAYAM/ MOOC courses and awarding credits for them. The university has made its own model of Academic Bank of credits(DMIMS Model of Credit bank)for allocation,redemptionand transfer of credits.
Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (DU), Sawangi (M), Wardha is ranked 100th under ‘Overall category’ among Higher Education Institutions , 61st among all Universities, 34th among Medical Schools and 19th among Dental schools in National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2021 out of 6272 applications made by various HEIs across the country. NIRF was launched by MHRD in 2015 to rank Institutions across the country and is approved by MOE. The rankings are based on five generic parameters viz. Teaching Learning & Resources (TLR), Research & Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR).
This has been the third consecutive year wherein DMIMS(DU) has been featured among top Universities in NIRF Rankings. The University has maintained its 61st position since two consecutive years and is one of the only two Universities from Maharashtra to have been ranked under top 100, other being Dr DY Patil Vidyapeeth situated in Pune. It is also one of the only two Medical & Dental Schools being featured from Maharashtra. The distinctiveness lies in the location of the said University in a rural backdrop and still featuring among top ranking HEIs in all categories applied.
DMIMS (DU) is delighted to announce the start of Online programs(BBA, BCA, BCom, MCA and MBA) as “UGC Entitled Programs” along with already ongoing Open & Distance Learning Programs. DMIMSU unique “Integrated Industry- Placement” model coupled with state-of-the-art Learning infrastructure will provide learners a rigorous learning experience and a flourishing career in the modern-day corporate world. The integrated Industry curriculum & syllabus will enable learners to acquire deep sector expertise with content guided by experts. The training will be based on Strong management and leadership principles and Industry-relevant hands-on skillsthrough immersion projects, Industry Internship, case-based learning and continuous mentorship program. The highlight of these programs is that all these programs shall be apprenticeship embedded programs, whereby the learner shall be working at the industry and other relevant areas during their training to have actual hands on training. The UGC has granted the university approval for such programs. The student shall be entitled for stipend to the tune of Rs 10000 to 15000 per month and the hands on training shall enhance their overall employability. This new venture will be led by Santosh Jha as Director, Centre for Distance and Online education (CDOE).

During the current COVID crisis the health care services rendered by the university to the society through its hospital is well known, but the university has done a commendable work in the COVID-19 related research. According to a recent survey, DMIMS(DU) created record by publishing 138 COVID – 19 research articles in leading indexed journals which is highest in Maharashtra, 2nd among Private Institutions and 4th highest in the country. The university also participated in 2 clinical trials sponsored by the ministry of AYUSH.
