Nagpur: Instead of paying huge sums to get out of rural service, doctors must help the government improve medical services for the underprivileged, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told the doctors here. He was addressing the medicos during the annual conference of city branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA), NIMACON.
Fadnavis inaugurated the conference on Saturday in the presence of guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Social worker Dr Rani Bang was conferred upon Dr Wankar memorial lifetime achievement award. State IMA president Dr TC Rathod and Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) president Dr Kishor Taori were the guests of honour.
President Dr Ajay Kate, secretary Dr Sarita Ugemuge, organizing chairman Dr Subhash Dhawale, organizing secretary Dr Ashish Disawal and scientific committee Dr Avinash Wase were present.
“Doctors usually like to stay close to cities and don’t mind paying huge sums of money as bond fees to escape the one year compulsory rural service they are needed to complete after getting their degrees.
It is sad that despite having some of the best doctors in the world so close to them, people in the rural and tribal areas don’t have access to good healthcare,” said Fadnavis. When government was spending big money on building state-of-the-art institutions, organizations like IMA should also contribute towards nation building by serving the underprivileged, he added.
