The award is a recognition for various initiatives, both inside and outside classrooms, that the school has implemented for creating a sustainable environment on campus and turning itself into a ‘green school’.

The school campus includes a botanical garden with over 1,300 trees along with 15,000 herbs and shrubs including medicinal plants that attract a variety of insects. The campus also has a butterfly garden with seasonal vegetables growing round the year. The school has ensured that trees and plants are labelled with scientific names, adding to the learning environment as students walk by.

Tulika Kedia, President and Pro-Vice Chairperson of the institute, said, “This award attests our school’s unwavering passion and unrelenting commitment to fostering an environmentally-friendly learning ecology.”

A statement from the school added that the award is conferred by Green Mentors in collaboration with the renowned Law of Nature programme. For a holistic approach to the ‘green school’ concept, the school ensured that it meets its own energy requirements by setting up solar panels. The entire campus is plastic-free and even students have taken it upon themselves to use only cloth and paper bags.

Kedia said, “The school has also taken care of waste management by creating compost pits that provide green manures, thus minimizing wastage. Planting trees outside the classroom has been very beneficial as trees help to reduce mental stress, keep the surroundings fresh, brighten up the surroundings, give a beautiful appearance and purify the air.”

Even the CBSE has accepted a book conceptualized by the school called ‘Herbal Heritage’ as part of its ‘skill subject resource. This is the 7th edition of NYC Green School Conference which brings together leaders, educators, and policymakers.
