Nagpur: Former Minister and Congress MLA Dr Nitin Raut has a posed a question to State Energy Minister and Nagpur Guardian Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding air pollution by hazardous chemicals.

According to the news published in the local daily, sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) hazardous chemicals have been observed in the atmosphere from power generation stations in Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati and Gondia districts, thus affecting the health of the people in the said cities. Adverse effects have been observed.

Due to the spread of the said hazardous chemicals in the land and atmosphere causing massive pollution, the government has decided to change the fuel gas desulphurization (FGD) burner design, E.S.P. to the power generation centre in Nagpur district. Instructions are given for planting such devices.

Dr Raut asked whether the Fuel Gas Desulphurization (FGD) Burner Design Change in Power Generation Stations of Koradi and Khaparkheda in Nagpur District are in place or not. He has sent a letter asking the current Energy Minister and the Guardian Minister directly confirm whether or how this was installed and send a report on the action taken in this regard.
