Nagpur: Dr. Pramila Asolkar, Nagpur’s renowned gynaecologist, medical activist, and social worker who left an indelible mark on medical community, passed away on Saturday, October 5. She was 94.
Dr. Asolkar served as the President of Matru Sewa Sangh from 1999 to 2005, dedicating decades of her life to the well-being of society, particularly in advancing maternal health. Her leadership in initiating Breastfeeding Week is just one of her many remarkable contributions. Recognized with the Nagpur Obstetrics and Gynaecologist Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Asolkar’s impact was profound and far-reaching.
Dr. Asolkar was a beacon of inspiration, not just for her medical achievements, but also for her unwavering belief in the importance of staying mentally and physically active throughout life. Her passion for creating opportunities for senior citizens through her work with the Centenarians Club reflected her deep commitment to societal growth and well-being.
Her passing away leaves a void that cannot be filled. The Matru Sewa Sangh will be holding condolence meetings across its branches on October 7, 2024, to honour her memory and contributions.
