Nagpur: Maharashtra’s Medical Education and Research Department has appointed Dr Ravi Chavan as new Dean of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) at Nagpur. Dr Ravi Chavan is presently working as Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at IGGMCH.
Dr Ravi Chavan has done his MBBS and MS both from this college. After the transfer of Dr Sanjay Bijwe, the post of Dean remained vacant till the charge was given to Dr Radha Munje, Critical Care Specialist. Dr Munje worked as Medical Superintendent during the deanship of Dr Sanjay Bijwe.
Dr Chavan knows every minute thing about IGGMCH as he has been attached to this hospital and college since his student life. Dr Chavan led various teams in IGGMCH during the coronavirus pandemic. Dr Ravi Chavan has contributed a lot as far as various construction works at IGGMCH are concerned. He played an important role in resolving the issue of shortage of medicine.
During the fiasco at Mumbai’s J J Hospital after the resignation of Padma Shri Dr T P Lahane, the Government had sent Dr Chavan there for damage control. Government involved Dr Chavan in the development plan of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital and Research Institute, Kamptee road. IGGMCH Alumni, association and others have expressed happiness over the appointment of Dr Chavan.
