Nagpur: The robbery of Rs 12 lakh near Hindustan Colony in Nagpur on August 26 has taken an unexpected twist, as the Dhantoli police recently cracked the case, leading to the arrest of seven individuals and the declaration of two others as absconders.
In a surprising development, Gopi Joshi, the complainant who initially reported the theft, is now being viewed as the main culprit. Joshi, who has since gone into hiding, is suspected of orchestrating the entire incident, according to local media reports.
The robbery occurred when Joshi’s employees were transporting the cash to Buldhana, only to have it snatched at knifepoint. Initially, the Dhantoli police did not treat the case with urgency, but after intervention by Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal, the investigation gained momentum. The breakthrough led to the recovery of Rs 6 lakh and the arrest of Joshi’s associates, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the cash involved.
Further investigation revealed that one of the accused, Tanuji Zade, had initially approached the Dhantoli police with the complainants to file a report but later attempted to dissuade them from completing the formalities. Zade was the first to be arrested and subsequently exposed the involvement of the other suspects.
Police suspicion grew as they observed frequent communication between Zade, Joshi, and others. As inquiries into the source of the money intensified, Joshi mysteriously disappeared. According to reports, Joshi worked as a GST consultant with clients across Vidarbha, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to search for Joshi and uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
