Two henchmen of the gangster, Chhotu alias Juned Zahir Karim and Abrar alias Raju Badhiyara alias Wajid Mohd Sheikh, later recovered the extortion money from the two businessmen in a well planned plot. Incidentally, Chhotu alias Juned Zahir Karim and Abrar alias Raju Badhiyara alias Wajid Mohd Sheikh were arrested on April 8 in connection with the jailbreak in which five hardened criminals escaped from Nagpur Central Jail a few days ago.
Nagpur: The reports that organized extortion gangs are operating from Nagpur Central Jail were proved bang right when a dreaded gangster phoned two businessmen from the jail and extorted Rs 1 lakh from them with the force of life threat. Two henchmen of the gangster later recovered the extortion money from the two businessmen in a well planned plot.

The dreaded gangster Raja Ghous, accused in several grave offences like robberies, murders, and even opening firing at policemen and subsequently lodged in Nagpur Central Jail, called Pappu alias Samir Narendra Mendhe (26), resident of Dhammakirti Nagar, on his mobile phone and demanded extortion money from him. The gangster Raja Ghouse frequently phoned Pappu alias Samir Mendhe since the past six months and threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the extortion money. Later, according to the plan the two henchmen of the gangster identified as Chhotu alias Juned Zahir Karim and Abrar alias Raju Badhiyara alias Wajid Mohd Sheikh went to Pappu Mendhe’s office at Rahul Complex, Amravati Road T-Point, and recovered a total of Rs 50,000 and also demanded more and more money from September 2014 to 9.4.2015.
Wadi Senior PSI Kutemate, acting on a complaint lodged by Pappu alias Samir Mendhe, booked the three accused gangsters under Sections 384, 385, 34 of IPC and launched an investigation into the matter.
Similarly, the gangster Raja Ghous called another businessman Shashi Devidas Uike (33), resident of Plot No. 60, Dayalu Nagar, from different mobile phones and demanded extortion money from him. Shashi Uike received phone calls from the jailed gangster over a period of 7-8 months. The modus operandi was the same – demand extortion money with the force of life threat. In this case also, Chhotu alias Juned Zahir Karim and Abrar alias Raju Badhiyara alias Wajid Mohd Sheikh, the two henchmen of the gangster Raja Ghous, approached Shashi Uike and forcibly took a total of Rs 50,000 as extortion money from him till 9.4.2015.
Jaripatka Senior PSI Shrikhande, based on Uike’s complaint, registered offences against the accused Raja Ghouse, Chhotu alias Juned Zahir Karim and Abrar alias Raju Badhiyara alias Wajid Mohd Sheikh and two others under Sections 448, 384, 365, 386, 387, 506, 34 of the IPC and probing the matter further.
What provoked or encouraged the two businessmen to lodge the delayed police complaints was the fact that the two henchmen Chhotu alias Juned Zahir Karim and Abrar alias Raju Badhiyara alias Wajid Mohd Sheikh were arrested by Crime Branch in connection with the jailbreak in which five hardened criminals escaped from Nagpur Central Jail a few days ago. The two were arrest on April 8. And the two relieved businessmen lodged their complaints on April 9.
Over the past few days, umpteen mobile phones were seized from the Nagpur Jail in different raids. All these phones were found in the possession of the inmates indicating that checks on use of mobile phones in the prison are few and far between.
