Nagpur: In a major operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Nagpur successfully seized 3.341 kg of gold from an individual at the Nagpur Railway Station on Wednesday. The person in question was traveling from Kolkata to Pune via Nagpur aboard the Azad Hind Express.
Acting on a credible tip-off, DRI sleuths apprehended the suspect around 7 pm and confiscated gold bars with an estimated value of nearly Rs 2.13 crore. The individual was reportedly attempting to reach Mumbai, and it was revealed that he intended to catch another train from Nagpur Railway Station.
DRI officials, when approached for comments, remained tight-lipped, citing an ongoing investigation. Despite their reluctance to divulge specific details, unofficial sources have suggested that the detained person was aiming to connect to a Mumbai-bound train, exploiting the Azad Hind Express’s route to Pune.
This latest incident comes on the heels of a recent success for Nagpur Customs Officers, who thwarted an attempt at gold smuggling at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. The customs officials intercepted an air passenger arriving in the city from Sharjah via an Air Arabia flight. The intercepted individual was found carrying 3.498 kg of 24 karat fine gold, valued at approximately Rs 2.01 crore.
