Nagpur: A heavily intoxicated car driver subjected a police official to abuse and recklessly dragged him for approximately 20 feet between Laxmi Nagar and Bajaj Nagar Square within the jurisdiction of the Bajaj Nagar Police Station. The police officer has been identified as Amit Vasantrao Moon (30).
According to police, the accused have been identified as Ashish Premkumar Tewar (27), a resident of KTPS Colony in Koradi, and Anuj Srinivas Buragoni (24), residing in Parmanand Lay-out, Koradi. The incident took place on Saturday night when Amit and his colleague Rajesh Hiwarale were on patrolling duty. The accused were travelling in a car from Laxmi Nagar Square. The perpetrators verbally abused Amit and sped away.
Shortly thereafter, they returned to repeat the verbal assault on Amit. Amit relayed the incident to the Police Control Room (PCR), and both officers initiated pursuit of the offending vehicle. The police spotted the car halting in front of Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work, Bajaj Nagar, and as Amit and Rajesh approached the vehicle, they discovered one person seated in the driver’s seat wearing a seat belt, while the other was outside the car.
Amit opened the car door and tried to remove the seat belt of the driver. However, the driver accelerated the car and dragged Amit for around 20 metres before colliding with a road divider. Miraculously, Amit escaped unharmed, while the driver sustained minor injuries. Additional police units arrived at the scene and arrested the accused. The accused Anuj was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The police registered a case against the accused and took them into custody.
