Nagpur News : A special meeting of women employees working in different Banks was held on 8th March 2014 by Eastern Maharashtra Bank Employees’ Association to observe International Women’s Day.
The Meeting was presided over by Com. Ramkumar Gupta, President of EMBEA.
Com. B. N. J. Sharma, General Secretary, EMBEA, at the outset greeted the participants on the occasion. He said that, women are an integral part of the society and working women are an inseparable part of the working class movement. But from time immemorial women are being denied their due and equal share in every walk of life. During the 2nd International Congress of Socialist Women held in Copenhagen in 1910, the renowned German Communist and trade union leader Com. Clara Jatkin proposed that a day be observed every year as International Women’s Day and since 1911 Women’s Day is being observed the world over. From 1914, it is being observed on 8th March and thus we are completing 100 yearsof observance of women’s day on 8th March. It is an occasion to pledge ourselves to carry forward the struggle for equality of women.
Com. Vandana Majumdar, Chair-person of Women’s cell, EMBEA gave detailed reporting of the activities and greeted the gathering and called upon them to work for empowerment of women and fight for equality and justice. Com. Ruta Gokhale of State Bank of Hyderabad, Com. Anila Jaiswal of Oriental Bank of Commerce and Com. Surabhi Sharma of State Bank of Travancore presented beautiful poems and stories to mark the occasion. Com. Girija Murthy of Punjab National Bank also greeted the Participants.
Com. Jaiwant Gurway, Deputy General Secretary, EMBEA and Com. Milind Wasnik, Organising Secretary, EMBEA also spoke on the occasion and expressed their views to work together for an exploitation free society.
Com. Ramkumar Gupta in his concluding presidential address said that on the occasion of International Women’s Day, let us all take the pledge that we shall fight for the protection and safety of women and also for equality of women in our society. He also informed that this year United Nations has given the theme ‘INSPIRING CHANGE’ . Let us take some more steps that will inspire changes – changes towards equality for women.
