Announcement of Eid-e-Milad holiday in Nagpur District

Nagpur: The Nagpur district will observe a holiday for Eid-e-Milad on Monday, following a decision made by District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar during a meeting held on Saturday with representatives from Muslim community organizations.

The State Government had initially scheduled 24 public holidays for 2024, including Eid-e-Milad, which falls on September 16 this year. However, concerns over potential security issues due to the overlap with Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on September 17, prompted discussions about shifting the holiday in certain areas.

To ensure law and order, the decision was made for Muslims in Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, and some other districts to hold their Eid-e-Milad processions on September 18, rather than the original date of September 16. Consequently, the holiday for these regions was also rescheduled to September 18. A letter regarding the change was issued on September 13 by Deepak More, Deputy Secretary to the Government.

In other districts, District Collectors were given the discretion to adjust the holiday as necessary. In Nagpur, after discussions with Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal and SP Dr. Harssh Poddar, Dr. Itankar declared that the holiday would be observed on Monday, September 16.
