Elderly Couple Found Dead in Apparent Suicide at Grandson’s Home in Nagpur

Nagpur: Tragedy struck the Chandan Nagar area on Friday when an elderly couple, 85-year-old Shriram Bapurao Katare and 82-year-old Shakuntalabai Bapurao Katare, were discovered hanging at their grandson’s residence. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Imamwada police station.
Police sources revealed that the Katares, originally from Amravati, had relocated to their grandson’s home in Chandan Nagar, Nagpur, on May 26, 2024.

On the evening of June 21, Tejas Shriramji Parthi, 30, the couple’s grandson, had left with his family for a function in the Hudkeshwar area, leaving his grandparents alone at home.

When the Parthi family returned around 11 PM, they found the door locked from the inside and no response to their knocks.

Alarmed by the situation, Tejas entered the house through the back door and was devastated to find his grandfather Shriram hanging from the kitchen fan and his grandmother Shakuntalabai hanging in the bedroom.

The family immediately brought the elderly couple down and rushed them to the Government Medical College and Hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The Imamwada police have registered a case of accidental death, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
