EoW arrests gang of nine for extorting Rs 3.17 crore under pretext of job promise, criminal intimidation

Nagpur: The Economic Offence Wing (EoW) of the Nagpur Police arrested a gang of nine people on Saturday for allegedly threatening a complainant and subjecting her and her family members to criminal intimidation to extort Rs 3.17 crore from her.

Based on the complaint lodged by Tanba Indurkar, police have booked the accused: Vaishali Vishwanath Shettygar, her husband Sudarshan Ennewar, Sonali Sanjay Ennewar, Sudarshan’s brother Siddhu, all residents of Pratap Nagar, Vishal Vishwanath Shettygar, Avinash Nanda, Nisha Nanda, Krunalkant Sarwari, Shahnawaz Khan, a resident of Nari Road under Sections 420, 406, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120B, 394, 386, 506, 34 of the IPC and placed them under arrest.

According to police sources, the accused persons are involved in the property dealing business and knew the complainant, Tanba. Using their acquaintance, they lured Tanba into believing they could provide her relatives with jobs at various organizations. However, they never fulfilled their promise and instead used criminal intimidation to extort Rs 3.17 crore from them.

Following this, the victim approached the EoW. Subsequently, the police registered an offense and arrested all the accused. They were presented before the court, and the police have received their PCR till May 14.
