“Every Small Action Multiplied by Millions Creates a Significant Impact” – Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal on World Environment Day

Nagpur– The Department of Gandhian Thought, RTMNU, in collaboration with India Peace Centre, Savings Dreams Foundation, and Paryavaran Pratham, hosted an enriching and interactive session titled “Our Planet, Our Responsibility” on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The event began with opening remarks by Mr. Pramod Watkar, Head of the Department of Gandhian Thoughts, RTMNU, and was presided over by Dr. Prashant Kadu, Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, RTM Nagpur University. Dr. Aprup Adawadkar, President, Paryavaran First, delivered an insightful address on restoring the planet’s health through Gandhian philosophy. Guest speaker Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal followed with a compelling talk on how to heal the planet Earth. The session also featured a talk by Mr. Vijay Bhagat, offering an engaging insight into the fascinating world of bees.

Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal emphasised practical ways to save the environment, making the session both informative and engaging for attendees. He discussed the importance of reducing waste by choosing products with less packaging, reusing items such as bags, containers, and bottles, and properly recycling materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal. Dr. Rawal highlighted energy conservation techniques, including using energy-efficient appliances, unplugging devices when not in use to reduce phantom energy consumption, and installing programmable thermostats to optimise heating and cooling.

Water conservation was another key focus, with Dr. Rawal advising attendees to fix leaky pipes, and use water mindfully by turning off taps while brushing teeth. He also encouraged the use of sustainable transport options, such as public transit, carpooling, cycling, and walking for short distances.

Supporting sustainable practices was underscored by the promotion of buying locally produced and organic food, choosing eco-friendly products made from sustainable materials, and supporting businesses that prioritise sustainability. Dr. Rawal advocated for planting and maintaining green spaces through urban gardening, tree planting initiatives, and the protection and expansion of parks and natural areas.

The session concluded with a call to participate in environmental activities such as community clean-ups, volunteering with environmental organisations, and attending eco-friendly events and workshops. Dr. Rawal emphasised that each small action, when multiplied by millions of people, can make a significant difference. By incorporating these practices into daily life, we can collectively contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations.

The meeting was attended by a large number of participants.
