Ex-BCCI Treasurer, ex-VCA President Prabhakarrao Mundle passes away in Nagpur

Nagpur: Bhaiyasaheb alias Prabhakarrao Mundle, a senior Swayamsevak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and a distinguished figure in both the construction and sports communities, passed away on Tuesday in Nagpur. He was 86.

Mundle, a resident of 161, Shivaji Nagar, was the ex-National President of the Builders Association of India and served as the Treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He leaves behind wife Anuradha, son Nikhil, daughters Anupriya, Manjiri and a host of relatives to mourn the loss.

A life member of the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA), Mundle served as its President for three consecutive terms of two years each, from 1990-91 to 1996-97. He also represented Vidarbha in interschool cricket tournaments. Mundle successfully managed many institutions like the Blind Relief Association’s Andha Vidyalaya, Mundle English Medium School, and R S Mundle Dharampeth Arts and Commerce College in Nagpur.

He was also the President of Shree Narkesari Prakashan, which runs the Marathi daily, Tarun Bharat. After receiving news of Mundle’s demise, Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari took to ‘X’ and said, “Prabhakarrao worked with many organisations of RSS and related organisations in Nagpur. Prabhakarrao always stood by the workers in times of trouble. He has played a major role in the development of many institutions in Nagpur. The passing away of a great and very sensitive personality has left a big void in the social and professional spheres of Nagpur.”

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on ‘X’, “Very sad to hear the news of his demise. I had a very close and familial relationship with him. He contributed immensely in various fields of society. My humble tribute to Bhaiyasaheb Mundle, who was very friendly and respected by everyone, from the young to the old.”

BJP State president Chandrashekhar Bawankule also paid homage to Mundle.
