Ex-CJI Bobde, Adv Salve, Chitaley to be honoured with Nag Bhushan Award on Nov 18

Nagpur: Justice Sharad Bobde, former Chief Justice of India (CJI); Adv Harish Salve, legal luminary; and Leelatai Chitaley, freedom fighter and social worker, will be honoured with the coveted Nag Bhushan Award ceremoniously on November 18 at 5.30 pm. The function will be held at Summit Hall, Hotel Radisson Blu, Wardha Road.

Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, will be the chief guest. He will present the award to the eminent recipients. Ajay Sancheti, President of Nag Bhushan Foundation and former Member of Rajya Sabha, will preside over the function. After COVID-19 outbreak, the Nag Bhushan Foundation has decided to confer the awards for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Accordingly, the prestigious award for the year 2019 will be bestowed upon Adv Harish Salve. The award for the year 2020 will be presented to Leelatai Chitaley. Justice Sharad Bobde, former CJI and Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University at Mumbai and Nagpur, will be honoured with Nag Bhushan Award for the year 2021.

The coveted Nag Bhushan Award was instituted by Nag Bhushan Foundation, which was founded on the eve of the tercentenary year of Nagpur city in the year 2002. Since then, the Foundation has been honouring renowned personalities who have brought laurels of National and International repute to the region. The Nag Bhushan Award comprises Rs 1 Lakh cash and citation.

The recipients of the previous editions of the coveted award include R K Patil, Nitin Gadkari, Bhante Surai Sasai, Dr G M Taori, Principal Ram Shewalkar, Dr Prakash and Dr Mandakini Amte, Maruti Chitampalli, Mahesh Elkunchwar, Manik Godghate (popularly known as Poet Grace), Rajkumar Hirani, Thakurdas Bang, Adv V R Manohar, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Dr Vikas Amte, Devendra Fadnavis, Air Marshal S B Deo, and Vijay Barse.
