Excessive rainfall washes farmers’ hopes

While Maharashtra Government has declared 122 talukas drought-hit, excessive rainfall in Nagpur division has caused damage worth 6.50 Cr approximately. Heavy rainfall was witnessed on 19th and 20th of August in various parts of 6 districts within Nagpur Division. The estimated loss includes Rs. 3 Crore worth of loss of houses and loss of crops on 5,000 hectares approximately amounting to Rs. 3.50 Crores. The districts worst hit hit were Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Bhandarra, Nagpur and Wardha. According to the Administration, 19 persons lost lives in Nagpur Division between June 1st and August 23rd. Surviving family members of the deceased received aid as per the Government norms in 13 cases while 5 cases are still under process.
