Excise Deptt seizes huge cache of illicit liquor from Mahal area

: Even as the entire nation including Nagpur city is observing October 2, 2015 as Gandhi Jayanti, which also happens to be a declared ‘Dry Day’, the officials of the State Excise Department raided the house of a 45-year-old man who had smuggled illicit liquor from Madhya Pradesh and had stored it in his house situated in Mahal area. 

According to his neighbours, the officials of State Excise Department raided the house of 45-year-old man identified as Nagesh Chauhan who had smuggled illicit liquor from Madhya Pradesh and had stored it in his house. On a secret tip-off, the officials had raided his house and had seized a vehicle full of illicit liquor.

Some of the neighbours who were incorporated by the officials of the State Excise Department to become the Panchas said that the officials broke the seal of one bottle to smell the liquor and ascertain that it is liquor indeed, said that surprisingly the liquor did not smell at all but definitely tasted as one. Sources claimed that the officials of the State Excise Department had allegedly pegged the total worth of the seized liquor to be around Rs 25 lakhs.

Since the accused Nagesh Chauhan absconded, his wife was arrested on his behalf and taken to the office of the State Excise Department. Till the time of filing the story, the officials of State Excise Department did not comment on the search and seizure operation claiming that the investigation and formalities are yet to be completed so will not be able to give any conclusive information.
