Eye Donation Fortnight inaugurated at GMCH

Nagpur: The Eye Donation Fortnight organized by Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College and Hospital was inaugurated by Chief Guest, MLA , South Nagpur , Shri Sudhakar Kohle in Eye Department Government Medical College, Nagpur. Shri Kohle appealed to the people and urged them to come forward and spread the message of Eye Donation to the common people which would help the corneal blinds to come out of darkness. Dr . A. Niswade ,Dean, Government Medical College, Nagpur stressed the importance of Eye Donation and of new equipments and techniques to be made available in the Eye Department. Head of Department, Department of Ophthalmology, Govt Medical College, Nagpur Dr. A. H. Madan highlighted the work done by the department in the field of eye donation and the various facilities available as well as the programmes organised by the department. He also threw light on the plans for the further development of the department.

The main attraction of the Eye Donation Fortnight was the grand rally organised by the Eye Department, Govt Medical College, Nagpur to create awareness about eye donation amongst the masses. MLA Sudhakar Kohle , flagged off the rally of about 500 people which comprised of undergraduate students, nursing students and NCC Cadets. The rally was headed by Dr. Mona Deshmukh, Incharge, Eye Bank, Dr. Rahul Dagwar, Dr. Snehal Bonde Chaurasia, Dr.Nilesh Gaddewar, Dr. Jayshree Ekhar and Residents of Eye Department. During the rally, a street play was organised by the NSS volunteers from the College of Nursing, GMC, Nagpur, depicting the importance of eye donation. The rally starting from the eye department led to medical square, to Ishwar Deshmukh College, to Tukdoji Square and back to the department. During the rally, students were carrying banners with slogans and messages about eye donation.

Sudhakar Kohle also inaugurated the video to be played daily in the Eye OPD during the Eye Donation Fortnight spreading the message about eye donation.

Dr.Kishor Taori, Dr. Tirpude, Dr. Headau, Dr. Muddeshawar, Dr. Mishra, Dr. Dasgupta, Dr. Narlawar, Dr. Shashtrabhojne, Dr, Gajbhiye, Dr. Diwan and Heads of other departments were present during this programme. All the gazetted officers, residents and staff of the Eye Department, worked hard for the successful implementation of the programme.
