Eye on Assembly polls: BJP leaders go on inauguration spree of multi-crore projects in Nagpur

Nagpur: With Assembly elections in Maharashtra on the horizon and the model code of conduct expected to come into force soon, several multi-crore projects are being inaugurated by BJP leaders while foundation stone is being laid for others across Nagpur. On Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari carried out marathon inaugurations and bhoomipujan for projects worth Rs 500 crore, mostly in East Nagpur.

East Nagpur is considered Gadkari’s stronghold, and he had a major lead from this part of the city in this year’s Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at an event in East Nagpur, Gadkari highlighted that Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and other agencies have implemented these projects worth Rs 500 crore. “Nagpur is getting good educational institutes, health facilities, drinking water, good roads, flyovers, and there is Metro too,” he said.

On East Nagpur, he said the area has seen rapid development in the last 10 years. “Most of the problems in this area have been resolved. New pipelines, healthcare facilities, and road projects have greatly improved. Metro now reaches Pardi, and soon, a trolley bus service will run on Nagpur’s Ring Road, which would be the first-of-its-kind in the country,” he said.

Modern administrative building for Divisional Commissionerate, District Collectorate

Bhoomipujan of a new, modern administrative building that will house Divisional Commissionerate and District Collectorate, was performed on Sunday by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways; and Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister in the Collectorate premises.

Gadkari, in his address, appreciated the proposed building and appealed to Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector, to make sure that this building is utilised for efficient completion of public work. Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) is the implementing agency for the construction of a new administrative building. Devendra Fadnavis expressed his proud feeling about the new building in the city. He said, “We are building the best infrastructure in the city. The new project is not just beautiful but also sustainable.”

At the onset, Dr Vipin Itankar informed that the new administrative building is being built at cost of Rs 271.34 crore. It will be completed in two years. The building will consist of two 12-floor towers that will be connected with each other on four floors via connecting bridges. The building will have a public plaza for use by citizens on the ground floor.

The Union Minister also inaugurated the much-awaited light and sound show on the life of Swami Vivekananda at Ambazari Garden. Several known artists, including Padma Shri and Academy Award-winning ones, worked on the multimedia film on Swami Vivekananda. “Swami Vivekananda is the symbol of history, culture, and heritage. He had predicted that the 21st century would belong to India. The main purpose of this project is to inspire youths and create several new Swami Vivekanandas in society,” said Gadkari. Project implemented by NMRDA at a cost of Rs21.73 crore.

Inaugurations and bhoomipujans:

* Devadia Sootikagriha bhoomipujan performed at Quetta Colony. The funds provided by Central and State governments to improve health care facilities.

* New Pardi Police Station inaugurated under the Nagpur Smart City project to cover Pardi, Bharatwada, Poonapur, Bhandewadi, and other nearby areas.

* Water tanks for tanker-free city: Under the Amrut Yojana sponsored by the Central and State governments, 20 lakh litre capacity water tanks worth Rs1.93 crore each in Nandanvan and near Symbiosis College in Wathoda inaugurated. Water tank with 15 lakh litres capacity built at a cost of Rs 1.99 crore also inaugurated

* Nandgram: Bhoomipujan of NMC’s ambitious project done at Wathoda for which Rs 104 crore were approved in 2023-24. Project aims to reduce stray animals on roads and give them a safe place

* Wathoda Fire Station opened to cater to the needs of a growing city. Also, under the Nagpur Smart City project, a G+2 fire station was constructed at Poonapur with staff accommodation. Fire station to serve citizens of Pardi, Bharatwada, Poonapur and Bhandewadi in East Nagpur.

* Multi-Skill Development Centre set up under the Nagpur Smart City Project at Poonapur to train unemployed and educated youths.

* Ayushman Health Mandir: A total of 113 Civil Ayushman Health Mandir and Health Enhancement Centres approved for the city. Thirty-six Ayushman Health Mandirs operational, including four inaugurated at East Nagpur in Lakadganj, Bahubali Nagar, Vaishnodevi Nagar, and Shaheed Chowk. Four new physiotherapy centres were also commissioned.

* C&D Waste Project: Under the government’s Swachh Bharat Mission, bhoomipujan completed a Rs 7.51 crore project for collection, transport, and processing of C&D waste.

* Swimming pool: Bhoomipujann of the new swimming pool of NIT at Old Bagadganj Layout done.

* ROB: Inauguration of the 525m long Railway Overbridge constructed by Maharail at Bhandewadi at a cost of Rs 50.88crore.
