Facilities at Mihan crumbling as problems of companies remain unresolved

Nagpur: Launched 20 years ago, the Mihan-SEZ witnessed a flurry of development of basic facilities. But, today, the facilities are gasping for breath. Years of neglect has led to the facilities crumbling one by one. On one hand the companies are demanding expansion of facilities and on the other hand, the pathetic MADC officials are making things more complicated. In the meeting of stakeholders, the problems being raised are not being addressed and thus companies are in a fix, according to a report in the media.

With the shabby state of affairs dogging the Mihan SEZ, one is reminded of the “5-Star” Butibori Industrial Zone. Everybody knows the crumbling of the Butibori Zone. It is 5-Star for the sake of name but one is appalled when it comes to facilities and nothing in industrial development. Mihan is also moving on the lines of Butibori. Companies are coming but the facilities are dwindling day by day, the media report said.

Flyover in poor condition:

For entry to the Mihan, one has to tread the flyover. But after ascending the flyover from Wardha Road side, a riddle of potholes welcome the visitors. Top officials also traverse on the flyover but they turn a blind eye towards the shoddy condition of the flyover. Repairing of the flyover is the need of the hour but the officials who are sitting in Mumbai care a hoot on the pretext of not being informed of the problem.

Main Road:

The earlier officials gave a beautiful look to the Main Road by turning it into a cement road. This road is standing tall but nobody is caring to give it a more beautiful look. At many places along the road, wild bushes have come up making it an ugly sight. The road in front of the company is on par with any beautiful road. A number of companies are eager to beautify the cement road but the officials see it ‘meddling’ in their affairs.

Retired officials:

The sorry state of affairs in Mihan is mainly due to retired officials. The pathetic attitude of the officials has led to problems taking monstrous shape. The Nagpur Mihan had its boss, a retired man from the beginning. This is the main reason that neither a job is done nor any decision is taken. All files are sent to Mumbai where the files gather dust. The retired official draws his hefty pay for doing nothing. The outcome of all these shabby affairs is that Nagpur Mihan is paying the price at the cost of lethargic officials.

The cascading effect of all these issues is that many companies, that had assured to set up their units over a period of time, have gone to other places in exodus.Despite efforts by the Mihan to attract industrial investment or create jobs for the people of the region, the scenario is bleak and worrisome. This is in stark contrast to the rooftop claims being made by the politicians from the region about a bright future of Mihan from time to time. The bitter truth is that the exodus of companies, one after another, from SEZ continues unabated.

The records at the office of Additional Director, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health show that a total 295 factories have vanished in the past two years.
