Nagpur: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday dismissed the Opposition’s allegations, asserting that no major projects have been transferred out of Maharashtra. His statement followed a clarification from ReNew, a leading renewable energy company, denying claims of moving their operations out of the state.
Fadnavis criticized the Opposition for misleading the public, saying, “The opposition constantly defames Maharashtra. They tried to create a narrative that the ReNew power plant moved out of Maharashtra to Gujarat. ReNew itself issued a statement today confirming they are not only staying in Maharashtra but also increasing their investments. This clearly shows the Opposition’s claims are baseless, and they are facing a setback.”
These remarks came after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, on September 9, accused the BJP of weakening Mumbai’s standing by shifting key industries and resources to Gujarat. Raut claimed, “Amit Shah ji and Modi ji have moved industries and trade institutions to Gujarat, diminishing Mumbai’s prestige.” He further expressed concerns that even cultural icons like the Ganesh festival could be shifted out of Maharashtra.
ReNew Company, addressing the controversy, clarified that reports suggesting they were abandoning a proposed project in Nagpur due to high power tariffs were “factually incorrect and misleading.” They affirmed their continued commitment to Maharashtra, with plans to expand in solar manufacturing.
ReNew is set to invest ₹15,000 crore in the state, with a goal of installing 2000 MW of capacity by 2025-26. Currently, the company has an installed capacity of 550 MW in Maharashtra, with an additional 2000 MW under construction.
ReNew emphasized, “We remain one of the largest renewable energy companies in Maharashtra and stand by our commitments here.”
