Nagpur: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will monitor sweets and food distribution by Ganesh, Durga Mandals during upcoming festivals. Dharmraobaba Atram, Minister of FDA said that these mandals will have to get permission for such distribution from FDA. If they don’t do so, then they will have to face the consequences.
Atram, who is in Nagpur for an official visit, spoke to a local newspaper at Ravi Bhavan. He said, “There have been multiple incidents wherein people have fallen ill because of unhygienic food preparations. Some people bring sweets to distribute after pooja at mandals which may have been prepared under unhygienic conditions. Against the backdrop of these incidents we have decided to take strict measures. Our FDA officials have the list of Ganesh, Durga mandals. Normally mandals do approach FDA for permissions. In case they fail to do so, then department staff will call them and ask to get permission.”
This time there will be flying squads of FDA which will not only monitor the food distribution events but also educate people about such food and sweet distribution. Such kinds of events of ‘Prasad’ distribution are conducted in big apartments. Such societies too are expected to get permission from the FDA. Now the permission can be procured online and nobody needs to go to the office for offline submission.
Recently some opposition leaders argued that the Mahayuti Government won’t be able to deposit the amount in the accounts of women under ‘Ladki Bahin’ yojana. Replying to a query on that issue, Atram said, “These arguments are baseless. We have allocated funds for the yojana and we will continue to deposit the money in the accounts of our sisters and mothers of the state. In fact we are getting a huge response even in districts like Gadchiroli. I personally visited the Naxal-dominated areas and appealed to the women to apply under the scheme.”
