Nagpur: The fire-fighters of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Fire and Emergency Services Department were on their toes as nine fire incidents were reported in different areas on Saturday including a major one at an agarbatti factory.
A devastating fire broke out at an incense stick (agarbatti) factory at Nagalwadi near Waddhamna early Saturday morning. The fire totally destroyed the factory with loss put at Rs 60 lakh. The fire-fighters struggled hard to bring the leaping flames under control. There were no reports of any casualty in the fire.
Residents living near Rocket Agarbatti Company saw smoke coming out from the factory around 5.30 am on Saturday. Soon, flames leapt up that could be seen from far away. On being informed, fire tenders from MIDC, Civil Lines and Narendra Nagar Fire Stations were rushed to the spot. Even fire tenders from Kalmeshwar, Wadi too were rushed as the fire was not being brought under control.
According to sources, the factory was on private land and not in the MIDC area. The factory had a huge stock of incense stick boxes as well as raw material that was destroyed in the fire.
Several other incidents of fire were also reported in the city. Though minor incidents, the fire-fighters had to rush for every spot to douse the fires. Mostly the fires were started in garbage dumps or shrubs in open spaces including one near Gorewada Water Treatment Plant.
