Nagpur: As the officials of Regional Transport Office (RTO), Nagpur, failed to appear before the Crime Branch to record their statements on Monday in the firing case, the Crime Branch officials again issued notices to these officials to appear before them on Wednesday.
An official of Crime Branch said that the notices were issued to RTO’s Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Sanket Gaikwad, his wife Komal Gaikwad, and MVI Veersen Dhawale, Woman MVI Geeta Shejwal, her husband MVI Abhijeet Manjre. Of which, only MVI Dhawale appeared before the Crime Branch on Monday and recorded his statement. As a result, the Crime Branch again issued notices to the RTO officials and their relatives, directing them to record their statements on Wednesday.
The mystery surrounding the 20 months old firing case took a turn last week after Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar transferred the probe from Bajaj Nagar police station to the Crime Branch.
An offence of attempt to murder was registered and notices were issued to four persons to appear before the crime branch. These four persons had attended Gaikwad after he was injured. It’s learnt that some of the suspects had sought time to appear before the probe team.
The latest case is a fallout of the ongoing camp rivalry at the RTO office. Prior to the current police case, a spate of cases were registered against RTO officials.
Statements from witnesses, including WMVI Gita Bhaskar Shejwal, Veersen Dhawale, Komal Sanket Gaikwad, did not align with the technical evidence obtained during the inquiry, said police. It was revealed that the bullet was intentionally fired, not accidentally discharged as initially claimed. “An unidentified person, with the intention of killing Gaikwad, took the MVI Gaikwad’s service revolver, aimed at him, and fired a shot,” a police official said.
