Nagpur: Unknown assailants opened fire on a minibus carrying passengers returning from a pilgrimage to the shrine of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj in Shegaon, heading back to Nagpur. As a result of the gunfire, four people have been injured. This shocking incident occurred on the Amravati-Nagpur National Highway near Shivangaon, around midnight on Sunday. However, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
On Sunday, a group of tourists from Nagpur, traveling in Tempo Traveler MH 14/GD 6955, visited Shegaon for pilgrimage purposes. In the evening, they commenced their return journey. While traveling from Amravati to Nagpur, between Shivangaon and the toll plaza, they were overtaken by a Bolero vehicle. The occupants of this vehicle started firing at the travelers’ vehicle, causing injuries. One bullet struck the driver, Khomadev Kawade, injuring him, while four others sustained injuries in the attack. It has been reported that the assailants fired four rounds.
Following the gunfire, the assailants fled the scene by retrieving their vehicle and heading towards Morshi. Despite being injured, the driver of the Tempo Traveler managed to maintain control of the vehicle and brought it to a stop on the roadside. He then immediately informed the police station about the incident. The injured were promptly taken to the hospital for primary treatment, and the control room was notified immediately. The assailants arrived in the Bolero vehicle and wore face masks, providing this information to the tourists in the vehicle. Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack, and the police have launched a search for the assailants.
