Nagpur.
The first meeting of newly constituted Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation will be held on March 16 and will be presided over by Chairman Ramesh Shingare. The meeting is likely to approve development and other works worth lakhs that were proposed in the regular weekly meetings.
The Standing Committee comprises Chairman, 16 members including NMC officials. However, the March 16 meeting is likely to be missed by 6-8 members as their nomination was delayed. But the issue would possibly resolved in the General Body Meeting of NMC to be held on March 19.
Following upheaval in Shiv Sena, the election of party’s Group Leader and nomination of one member to Standing Committee got scuttled. In such scenario, the “unauthorized” Shiv Sena Group Leader Sheetal Gharat had nominated party’s Corporator Jagatram Sinha to Standing Committee. According to a letter received by NMC from the office of Divisional Commissioner, Shiv Sena Corporator Kishore Kumeria could be appointed Party Leader in NMC and the possibility is that he only will be nominated to Standing Committee as member.
However, deliberations are taking round in NMC and are focused on one pint only. Will the new Chairman of Standing Committee Ramesh Shingare and the members change the picture for better as far as corruption is concerned. In the past and even today, allegations of rampant corruption prevailing in NMC were a routine affair. The allegations were nevertheless not baseless. No work is done in NMc without the under table deal. Will the Standing Committee succeed in curbing corrupt practices or the menace touch the new peak?
