Nagpur: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds from early Saturday morning caused several disruptions across the city. Falling tree branches damaged power infrastructure, and technical faults arose in some areas. Consequently, power supply was intermittent in many parts of Nagpur. At Mahavitaran’s Besa area substation, rainwater flooded the facility, leading to a disruption of the 33 kV power supply, affecting thousands of customers.
Additionally, 11 kV lines in Kamal Chowk, Nava Nakasha, and Ginger Mall, along with parts of Kshetra-Clark City, Nari SRA Colony, and Samata Nagar, experienced faults, leading to power outages. Mahavitaran also had to cut off power supply in some low-lying areas to prevent mishaps due to flooding.
Upon receiving reports, Mahavitaran employees began repairs despite the rain. Senior officials, including Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke and Superintendent Engineer Amit Paranjape, supervised the power management and repair operations. Efforts were made to remove water from flooded power equipment, and power was restored in some areas within minutes. However, many customers complained of prolonged outages.
Faults were also reported in the 11 kV lines in areas like Wathoda, Narendra Nagar, Tajbagh, Shatabdi Feeder, and Shrikrishna Nagar Feeder. The 11 kV feeder in Ramteke Nagar was preemptively shut down as a precaution. Consequently, thousands of customers in these areas faced power outages.
In Kirnapur village, a household transformer’s distribution box was submerged by water from the Pohra River, resulting in the suspension of power supply to 130 customers. Given the rising water levels, the power supply may remain suspended for up to five hours.
