Nagpur: The Sonegaon Police Station in Nagpur found itself inundated with four feet of water due to heavy rainfall, causing a standstill in operations and requiring police officers to stand on chairs to continue their duties.

As heavy rains lashed the city early Saturday morning and continued until 11 a.m., water entered many areas, flooding homes and causing damage to food, clothing, and other belongings. The Sonegaon Police Station, situated near a flyover, was not spared. The compound, spanning nearly five acres, was completely submerged.

Water entered the police station and the traffic police office within an hour as the rain intensified. The duty officer’s chamber was flooded, halting all operations, and citizens were barred from entering the station. With water reaching the entrance and detention areas, on-duty officers and staff were stranded, standing on chairs and tables, waiting for the water to recede. Some officers made efforts to clear the water by noon.

The flood situation posed a significant challenge, as the police themselves needed assistance while usually being the ones to provide help during emergencies. All police vehicles were also stuck, further complicating the situation.
