Nagpur: Kotwali Police cracked the sensational theft at the residence of a drunken man by putting behind bars four thieves and recovered Rs 5.98 lakh cash from their possession.
Identified as Rohit Mangalsingh Chauhan (21), Kunal alias Chokya Prabhakar Dagwar (22), Abhishek Raju Tambuskar (21) and Gaurav alias Guddu Laxman Nagpure (24), the accused are the residents of Shivaji Nagar.
A resident of Ward No 4, Juni Gujarwadi, Saoner, Vijay Keshav Nikalje (50) had an argument with his wife over some domestic issue. He left home in huff and came to his old house at Shivaji Nagar in Kotwali area on August 27. Next day, he went to his house in Saoner and brought a bag containing Rs 7.50 lakh cash. For two days, he allegedly enjoyed liquor and threw lavish parties for friends, spending almost Rs 1.50 lakh.
On the intervening night of August 29 and August 30, he kept the bag containing Rs 6 lakh cash under the pillow and slept after enjoying liquor. Grabbing the opportunity, the accused quartet stealthily stole the bag containing Rs 6 lakh and distributed the cash among themselves.
Following Nikalje’s complaint, police registered a case under Sections 379 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Within 36 hours, cops investigated the case and arrested Rohit, Kunal, Abhishek and Gaurav and recovered Rs 5.98 lakh stolen cash.
The arrests were made by PSI Navnath Deokate and his team under the supervision of DCP (Zone-III) Gajanan Rajmane, ACP Sanjay Surve, Senior PI Mukund Thakre and PI Arvind Pawar.
