Nagpur: The Consul General of France in Mumbai, Jean Marc Serre Charlet on Wednesday visited Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Headquarters and held talks with Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhakrishnan B. The duo discussed the Nag River Rejuvenation Project of NMC, wherein the civic body is keen to tap France’s financial agency, Agence France de Development (AFD), to finance the said project.
Lionel Gomeric; representative of the Consul General of France; Abhay Tikekar, Superintending Engineer Manoj Talewar, Executive Engineer, Shweta Banerjee, NSSCDCL General Manager, Rajesh Dufare; Nag River Project Technical Advisor, Mohammad Israel; Smart City’s Dr Parag Armal and others also were present.
The Municipal Commissioner shared information about Nagpur city and its history. Informing about the iconic Nag River, he said, the river flows through the centre of the city and is its glory. With the passage of time, the beauty of the river has been affected and is heavily polluted due to direct emptying of untreated sewage in the river. Therefore, NMC has taken the initiative for the revival of this river, he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for the conservation project of Nagpur River and NMC officials are tying up the loose ends to start the process for appointment of agency to implement the project. The beautification of the river under the Nag River Rejuvenation Project was discussed in detail as particularly for the second phase, that of river front development, AFD has offered a soft loan to the civic body.
