This year Architectural Sankul celebrated Friendship Day in a very distinctive way by organizing a ‘Heritage Walk’ amidst the beautiful nature of Amrai, Sonegaon Nagpur, a rare event for heritage lovers, photographers, sketchers and writers.
A Heritage Walk was organised for the participants with an aim to make the people aware of Nagpur’s rich Heritage and spread the need to preserve our patrimony, the Walk started from the gate of Aamrai were Nitika Ramani narrated the beautiful history involved in it. The rich sensorial experience of the past was being experienced by the participants as the story unfolded the reason for existing water bodies, temples, ponds and wells that had a historical relevance.
The Sonegaon Murlidhar temple was the spot where participants were made aware about the role of designing this temple by Raghuji Bhosale. The scale and proportion, role of material and texture, iconography, etc. was discussed in length by Architect Madhura Rathod. The walk extended till the remains of the palace, lake, and well.
The Photowalk accompanied the Heritage walk at different spots in the surrounding of nature, the next spot was Murlidhar Temple in Sonegaon where Madhura Rathod and Atharva unfolded the history behind the construction of the temple to the participants and experience the sculptures and details of the temples through all their senses.
The open mic program ‘Dharowar’ by writers’ Realm offered a platform for poets, writers to recite their creations and encourage the young crowd to enhance their poetry and writing skills and involve the heritage in their poems. The sketchers and painters came along to create a master piece of the nature and beauty of Nagpur’s Heritage place and beautiful nature in there drawing books.
The participants were excited to be a part of such program where they were introduced to nature and got a closer view of Nagpur’s Heritage places. The sketchers and painters contributed in sketching and painting the beautiful Murlidhar temple with rich natural background.
Special dignitaries Virag Sontakke, Curator, Central Museum, Nagpur, Kishor Diwekar, INTACH Nagpur Convenor, and Ashok Singh Thakur, INTACH Chandrapur Convenor were felicitated for their support and cooperation in the Heritage Walk.
This event helped people to unfold the nature and sculptures which were untouched for several years. Architectural Sankul extended thanks to the team members Apurva, Amruta, Atharva, Himali and Sayali for dedicated work and efforts for the event.
