Machher Jhol or Machha Jhola is a traditional Bengali and Oriya spicy fish stew. It is in the form of a very spicy stew that is served with rice.
Ingredients:
500 gms Sea fish
1 tbsp red chili powder
1 tsp haldi
1 ½ tbsp dhaniya-jeera powder
Salt to taste
1 tsp mustard seeds
Oil as required
2 potatoes [sliced]
2 bay leaves
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp jeera
3 whole red chilies or 2 green chilies [slit]
1 tsp methi dana
2 onions [paste]
1 ½ tbsp ginger garlic paste
1 tbsp khus khus [fried]
2 tbsp hara dhaniya
1 tsp mustard paste
1 tsp red chili paste [optional]
Method:
Marinate fish with haldi, salt, mustard paste and fry it.
Take oil is another pan. Add bay leaf, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, fenugreek seeds, chilies, onion paste and ginger garlic paste and sauté.
Add red chili paste, salt, haldi, dhaniya-zeera powder, and fried khus khus and sauté add potatoes and let them cook, add water, salt and mix well.
Add fried fish n simmer for 2 mins.
Put it into serving bowl and sprinkle hara dhaniyato garnish.
Serve hot with Rice.
