Nagpur: In a filmy style chase and action, Ganeshpeth Police foiled murder of a man by four car-borne criminals with the help of an abducted youth. Cops have nabbed one of criminals after a hot chase on Monday. Police have also rescued the young man kidnapped by the criminals, besides seizing sharp-edged weapons and a Maruti Swift Dzire car.
Identified as Sandeep Vinod Samudre (28), the accused is a resident of Sindhi Colony, Khamla. Police have launched a hunt to apprehend other accused including Chetan Hazare, Rajesh Raut and Bharat Kashyap. The accused had abducted Aditya alias Abhimanyu Mendhe from Arun Ford Showroom at Sawarkar Nagar Square. They then took him in a Maruti Swift Dzire car (MH-40/AR-5722). The accused had plans to kill a person named Javed Khan and wanted Mendhe to call him at an secluded place where they can eliminate their rival.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Ganeshpeth Police comprising Head Constables Rehmat Shaikh, Devendra Chauhan, Naik Constables Sanjay Raisane, Rajesh Tapre, Sharad Chambhare, Amit Satpute, Prashant Gajbhiye and Constable Vivek Rathod under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Sambhaji Kadam, Senior Inspector M K Chauhan and Assistant Inspector A P Taksande laid a trap near Raman Science Centre. The team made futile attempt to intercept the car. Policemen then started chasing the vehicle. The car slowed down near Shikshak Sahakari Bank due to crowd on the road. Two of the occupants jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away.
Police chased and succeeded in nabbing one of them who was later identified as Sandeep Samudre. Other members of the police team continued chasing the car on their mobike. The three other accused ran away leaving the car near Tilak Statue in Mahal which was seized by the chasing cops. During the vehicle search, cops found sharp-edged weapons from the vehicle. During interrogation by the police, accused Samudre spilled the beans. Later, Ganeshpeth Police handed over Samudre to their Rana Pratap Nagar counterparts for further investigations.
