Nagpur: Tension ran high as a violent gang war erupted in Nagpur’s Imambada area on Friday night, when notorious criminal Shibbu Sebastian and his henchmen attacked a rival youth, Saurabh Masram, with deadly weapons.
Shibbu, a habitual offender with multiple cases, including attempted murder, allegedly led the assault alongside his accomplice Sachin Wasnik and others. The rivalry between Shibbu’s group and Saurabh, a 25-year-old also known for criminal activities, escalated after Saurabh reportedly attacked Sachin’s house two days earlier.
Seeking revenge, Shibbu, Sachin, and their gang — armed with swords and axes — stormed Saurabh’s residence in Jattarodi. Saurabh fled to his uncle’s house, but the gang chased him there, attacking him and aiming for his neck with the intent to kill.
During the attack, Saurabh’s friend, Besan, was also targeted but managed to escape. The Imambada police responded swiftly to the incident, launching a manhunt for the accused by reviewing CCTV footage.
A case of attempt to murder and rioting has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
The incident has heightened tensions in Imambada area, raising concerns over the increasing criminal activities in the locality. Open sale of alcohol and drugs has become rampant, prompting criticism of local law enforcement. Residents are demanding stricter measures to curb crime and restore peace in the neighbourhood.
