Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, the crime branch police team arrested notorious gangster Sumit Thakur at his residence in Gittikhadan, Nagpur, on Wednesday. Thakur, who had been evading capture in several serious criminal cases, including charges under MCOCA, had kidnapped three friends at gunpoint from Jaripatka in October 2023.
The police had been on the lookout for Thakur since the kidnapping incident. He was finally apprehended after a tip-off revealed his return to his home. The crime branch’s burglary squad, led by API Mayur Chaurasia, successfully arrested Thakur and handed him over to the Jaripatka police.
Thakur’s criminal history includes numerous cases, such as kidnapping, extortion, and assault. He had been charged under MCOCA and was absconding since the proceedings began. The arrest of Sumit Thakur is a significant achievement for the Nagpur police, expected to bring relief to the residents of Jaripatka, who had been living in fear of his terror.
