Nagpur: A man, Salim Ismael Shah was beaten up in our peaceful Nagpur by a four-member gang for allegedly carrying beef. (He was carrying meat, which is yet to be tested for what it was, beef, mutton or buffalo meat.)The incident has been reported in Bharsingi area of Nagpur. A case has been registered by Nagpur police.
Four people have been detained in connection with the case. Salim Ismail Shah, 36, was thrashed with rods and sticks by a few men said to be members of a group named – Prahar Sanghatan. The fringe group is allegedly linked to local MLA Bachu Kadu but it is not known yet if he was aware of the incident that happened yesterday in the city.
This city incident follows horrific instances like the killing of 15 year old Junaid on a train and then a man being thrashed and his house burnt when a dead cow was found outside his house in Chattisgarh.
After youngsters and concerned citizens in many cities across India carried out a spontaneous protest #Notinmyname against such lynchings and mob violence, P.M. Modi, speaking in Ahmedabad had condemned such mob violence by supposed ‘Gaurakshaks’.
“Bapu – Mahatma Gandhi – wouldn’t approve of this” he had said speaking in Sabarmati ashram.
His admonition seems to have fallen on deaf ears in Nagpur, which likes to boast that Gandhiji had made his final abode at Sewagram, close to Nagpur!
After the 40-year-old man was thrashed by four men in Nagpur’s Bharsingi area on Wednesday, a video showing the violence, while many watch on as mute spectators was shared by ANI. All four accused have been arrested in the case based on the video evidence, it is reported.
