Nagpur News: Seeded players had a smoooth sailing on the first day of GH Raisoni Maharashtra State Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament began at Saraswati Vidyalaya on Friday.
In second round on top board top seed IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni of Railways after making queens gambit decline opening outclassed Roneet Das in 36 moves. On second board IM Anup Deshmukh outwitted inexperienced Anupreet Paulkar in 28 moves. FM Satchidanand Soman downed budding Vaishnavi Gole in 43 moves while another FM Saurabh Kherdekar got the better of Sai Shravan in 29 moves. FM Akash Thakur recorded victory over Riddhi Kardile. Dilip Pagey made a light work of Nilesh Wasnik.
Earlier former mayor and leader of opposition in NMC Vikas Thakre inaugurated the tournament. Vice-president of Raisoni Group . Hemant Sonare President of South Indian Education Society C R Subramanyam, MCA secretary Dilip Pagay, Vidarbha Chess Association president Kundatai Vijaykar, NTCA president Sanjay Dahale and IM Anup Deshmukh were guests of honour. Mr. T.K. Vyankatesh and Mr. Abhay Shrivastav were also present on dias.
In the inaugural address Mr. Thakre applauded efforts of Parents Chess Association and assured full support in development of chess.
Hemant Sonare while elaborating the benefits of chess in academics and social life promised to support such activities on behalf of Raisoni Group in future. Vinay Vitalkar proposed a vote of thanks.
The tournament has received huge response from all corners of Maharashtra.
In all 223 players are vying for the top honours in nine round swiss league tournament.
On Saturday third round will start at 9.30 am followed by fourth round at 3.30 pm.
