Girl duped of Rs 7.15 lakh by cyber fraudster in Nagpur

Nagpur: A cyber fraudster duped a young girl of Rs 7.15 lakh by promising her huge returns in crypto currency trading.

Chintaman Namdeorao Nagpure (56), father of the victim Toshika (24), a resident of Bharari Building, Diwan Layout, Manewada, told police that his daughter works for an IT firm and had received a message on her WhatsApp account from cell number 8320560271 on February 26 last year. In the message, it was mentioned that she would get money if she likes some prominent videos on YouTube. She then started sending likes on some of the videos on YouTube. For each like, she was getting Rs 50, Rs 100 and Rs 200.

After gaining her confidence, the fraudster lured her to invest in crypto currency assuring huge profit. Presuming the person to be a crypto currency broker, she started sending him money. Between February 26, 2022 and January 5, 2023, she sent Rs 7.15 lakh to him but did not get any benefit. Later, his daughter realised that she was duped by an online fraudster.

Following the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Hudkeshwar Police registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 66(d) of the Information Technology Act, and started the probe.
