Gold, cash worth Rs 9 lakh stolen from wedding venue in Nagpur

Nagpur: Cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 9 lakh belonging to the bride’s family were stolen by miscreants at a wedding venue in Gittikhadan Police Station area on Thursday night.

Marriage ceremony of the daughter of Rajesh Shriram Borde (55), a resident of Plot No 50, Raksha Colony, Katol Road, was being solemnised at Savannah Lawns, Gorewada Ring Road, around 10 pm on Thursday. His wife was carrying two bags containing gold ornaments, including a Mangalsutra, bangles, a ring, a chain and a necklace, worth Rs 8.83 lak and Rs 17000 cash.

As Borde’s wife had to perform some rituals, she gave the bags to his sister-in-law. Thieves distracted the attention of his sister-in-law and niece and stealthily took away the bags containing cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 9 lakh.

Following a complaint lodged by Borde, police registered a case under Section 379,34 of the IPC and initiated an investigation.
