Nagpur: Starting the New Year on a clean slate, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) drive for devoting one hour for cleanliness received good response from citizens. Citizens took brooms in hand to clean the roads, spontaneously engaged in Shramdaan as part of a campaign to keep the city clean and healthy.
NMC had given a call for one date, one hour for the cleanliness activity on New Year day. People turned up in all ten zones of NMC to participate in the cleanliness activity. The Traffic Park in Dharampeth was chosen by citizens to clean the area. Additional Municipal Commissioner Anchal Goyal herself engaged in shramdaan.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, Dr Gajendra Mahalle along with Kaustubh Chatterjee of Green Vigil Foundation, Surbhi Jaiswal , Bishnudev Yadav , Shriya Joge , Priya Yadav, Sheetal Choudhari, Tushar Deshmukh, Sanskar Maheshwari, Morgan Gajbe volunteered for the cleanliness work.
Every zone picked-up one spot in their respective areas including Kamgar Colony in Laxmi Nagar Zone and near IT Park; LIG and MIG Colony, Raghuji Nagar in Dhantoli Zone; Lakshaved Ground, Narendra Nagar Over bridge, Dhantoli Zone; Sonzari Nagar, behind Sakkardara Lake in Nehru Nagar Zone in Ward No. 30; Barbate Garden in Wardhaman Nagar, under Gandhibagh Zone; Bastarwari area in Satranjipura Zone; near Adarsh School, Deshpande Layout, in Lakadganj Zone; Salim Sporting Ground, in Ashi Nagar Zone; and near Ginger Mall, Jaripatka, under Mangalwari Zone. Tree branches, plastic and other dry material were picked-up and put in a garbage carrying vehicle.
