Nagpur: After facing severe criticism for ongoing traffic chaos, the Nagpur Traffic Police have now become the subject of ridicule for their latest goof up. In an overzealous effort to enforce traffic regulations, they mistakenly sent a challan meant for a two-wheeler rider to a four-wheeler owner, causing significant confusion and frustration.
The incident came to light when Nitin Puranlal Pardesi, a resident of Plot No. 3, Padmavati Nagar, Godhani Railway, Opposite Sanjivani Hospital, Nagpur, received a traffic challan for a violation dated October 10, 2022. Pardesi, who owns a car with registration number MH-40/CA 7670, was shocked to find that the challan cited a traffic violation committed by a two-wheeler (Activa) for riding triple seat.
The challan, issued by Naik Police Constable (NPC) Ranjita Kamble, stated that the two-wheeler rider had been fined a total of Rs 2000 for multiple violations under Sections 139/177, 128(1), 194(C), 130(1)/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA). The cited violations included riding triple seat, failing to produce valid documents within 15 days, and driving without a valid license. The payment status of the challan was marked as unpaid.
Pardesi, perplexed by the goof up, questioned how he could receive a challan for a two-wheeler violation when he does not own a two-wheeler. This glaring error raises questions about whether it was a human error or an instance of the traffic police being ‘over smart’ in their enforcement efforts.
The communication, which was shared with Nagpur Today, highlights a critical need for the Traffic Police to ensure accuracy and diligence in their operations to prevent such mishaps. This incident underscores the importance of proper verification and documentation to avoid unnecessary harassment of innocent citizens.
The Nagpur City Traffic Police have yet to respond to the incident and clarify how this mistake occurred. As residents wait for an explanation, this error serves as a reminder of the challenges and responsibilities faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining order while ensuring justice and fairness.
